MARK COLVIN: A senior nun has admitted to the child abuse Royal
Commission that her response to allegations of abuse at the St Joseph's
Orphanage Neerkol was inadequate and "lacked compassion".
Sister Berneice Loch leads the Sisters of Mercy order, which ran the institution near Rockhampton for more than a century. She denied concealing evidence of child abuse which occurred between the 1940s and ‘70s. But she said a former Queensland MP's raising of the allegations in state parliament in 1996 was "wrong and sensational".
